RARE LANIAKEA 1968 REIDER PETERSON HAND PRINTED BY PHOTOGRAPHER ON 8X10" MATT

Description

This is a rarely seen 1968 photo (there are not a lot) of Laniakea surf break in Haleiwa on a big day about 12-15 feet. The surfer is Reider Peterson, and the photo was taken from the east Kawailoa access road. This is a fair quality,
it was shot on Tri-X 35mm film with a 135mm Pentax lens, and has some dust spots and imperfections

, with caption and photography information on the back North Oahu ©1968.  It is initialed by the photographer and dated on the front of the photo, and is shrink wrapped to protect it from damage. It has preservation tips included in the label on the back.
It would make a great gift for someone who has surfed this break or likes famous surf spots. They are popular reasonably priced decorations for restaurants, offices, homes, or stores where people can see them.
If you have ever surfed Lanis on a day like this you can relate, sorry for those folks who haven't. This swell was a little stormy conditions averaging 1012+ feet (Hawaiian). There were about 5 surfers out.
Laniakea is a world famous break at Kawailoa Beach in Haleiwa. The waves here range from 1-6 feet lefts and rights in the summer months to waves as large as 20+ feet high during the winter months generated (November-March) from far distant north and west Pacific Ocean storms. It is primarily a right hand break and was hardly surfed (word was ‘that there were many sharks there’) until the mid sixties. This photo was published in several magazines.

This original silver halide gelatin print was photographed, developed, and hand printed from the original negative in a darkroom on Ilford® Black and White 'Pearl' (semi-matte) surface paper by professional surfing, stock photographer, and master black and white printer Bill Romerhaus, of North Shore Photography, who has been shooting surfing, stock and scenics since 1967. He is one of a very few photographers in the world who specializes in hand printing original black & white waves and surfing. His most recent work has appeared in the  CBS/Eye productions "Hawaii 50", Disney/Dreamworks productions "Fright Night", ABC Television pilot "My Generation", Sony Pictures "Soul Surfer", CBS/Paramount Network TV series "The Cleaner" on A&E Networks, Universal Pictures "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", and Warner Brothers  "The Big Bounce", filmed on the North Shore or on Oahu, providing vintage photos of nostalgia, and surfing for background artwork. Bill has lived in Hawaii
for over 50 years. In 1965 he shot his first surfing photo and was a contributing photographer to 'Surfer', and 'Surfing' magazines, and over 30 international surfing magazines and manufacturers, as a photojournalist for over 100 publications, advertising/stock photo agencies, and corporate clients worldwide.
